Double Brimmed Hat

Hello Friends...So, I was eager to try my hand at a double brimmed knit hat this season. They looked fairly simple to make and classic in design.  My hubby was looking for something a little warmer around the ears, so the perfect opportunity presented itself! I'm proud to say, that not only did it turn out great, he's actually been wearing it every day on his walk to and from the subway.  Yeah, success!! I can't wait to make more with some cute pompoms! Fair Isle Knit Hat

Hello Friends...Since I got back into knitting recently, I made it a summer goal to make one of those cute Fair Isle hats you see all over Instagram and Etsy.  So, with much trial and error on of my own, I finally found a great basic tutorial on YouTube by CJ Design.  Her instructions are clear and she makes it really easy to follow along.  Once you get the hang of it, they are super easy to make and you can really have fun with colour combinations.  The only change I made to my hats were the number of cast on stitches at the beginning.  She starts with 44, I prefer to start with 40, but the pattern works out just the same.  It's a great way to use up some extra bits of yarn you may have lying around.  I found that the accent hearts do not require a ton of yarn. 

This will now be by go to hat for friends and family for the winter upcoming winter season.  I'm planning on adding pompom toppers to some, but they look look equally great without too:

Big Squishy Knit Blanket

Hello Friends...I've been working on a few more of these big squishy blankets, in Bernat Blanket yarn by Yarnspirations. They are so much fun to work on and so simple, as it's just the garter stitch. This yarn is so soft and as it works up, you are left with an irresistible squishy and cosy blanket! It's perfect for the colder months.

I'm especially loving this first colour, called Oatmeal. The other is called Silver Steel.

As a crocheter, it's nice to have a change and work with the knitting needles. Below is a winter scarf I recently finished, again in the simple garter stitch. Yarn is Wool Ease, by Lion Brand, in marble.

Cozy Knit Blanket

Hello Friends...so happy to share a recently completed knit project. As most if you know, I am a crocheter, but back in the day I started out knitting. I'd say its been about 30 years since I picked up the needles, except to teach my eldest daughter how to knit.

This project was so simple, just the garter, or knit stitch. I used Bernat Blanket yarn, which made this blanket so soft and squishy. I made this blanket custom for a friend and I've received great feedback. Added some fringe for fun, I'm sure this blanket will get good use over the colder Canadian months.

Mother's Day Round-Up

I hope all the Mother's out there had a fantastic Mother's Day!  Mine was just lovely, spent with my kids, my own Mother and my Mother in-law.  The day started out with breakfast in bed prepared by my children (with the help of their father, of course).  They also presented me with some lovely hand-crafted gifts.  Here's a sampling:

 

A beautiful tea light holder and a flower pot with hand made flower, plus one real carnation.

 

 

Hand knitted coasters, these were lovingly made with no help by my eldest - so proud!

The new Vogue Knitting Crochet edition magazine.  This was a nice surprise!
