Desk Makeover - The Reveal

Hello Friends - I'm finally getting around to posting about my desk makeover.  I started out with this earlier in the spring.  It's all finished now and looks like this:

I won't lie, it took several coats - a primer and close to 3 coats of paint in some spots.   All in all about a couple weeks start to finish.

On the inside shelves I decided to put in some leftover contact paper down rather than paint all the cubbies out.

 

It's now in our dining room and it's been getting lots of use!

 

 

I changed out the hardware as well.  In case anyone is interested, the colour is Benjamin Moore Cloud White.  Overall, I'm really happy with the results.

Desk Makeover

Hello Friends...I've had this old desk for years and I've been talking about painting it for years.  Here are some before pictures and some more in it's primed state.  Follow me as I give this old piece of furniture a new live and new purpose:

It's a fold down desk, as you can see.  Rather junky looking with all my $%$# piled in haphazardly.

Paint Job - Tah Dah

Hello Friends...I finally chose my paint colours and here are the final results:



So in the living room and dining room we decided to go with Benjamin Moore's Stonington Gray - HC-170.  I am so happy with the final result.  I originally wanted to go with Coventry Gray, but after doing a sample board, I found it was just too dark.

 

In the foyer and hallway going upstairs, we went with the next colour down, Wickham Gray - HC-171.  Again, so happy with the colour, it really brightens it up from what was there before.

 

Botanicals on the wall are from 1001 Treasures, an Etsy seller, framed in Ikea frames.

Now, onto some new drapery panels and some original artwork for over the fireplace mantel.

The Year Ahead

Hello Friends...I trust the New Year is treating everyone well.  I'm not one for New Year's resolutions, but I do enjoy looking ahead and setting some goals.  After about a year and a half at our now house, I feel as though we've somewhat settled in, but there are many projects to get to around the house.  Repainting is one project, for which we are starting next week, however, I'm still undecided on my colour.  Originally I wanted to go with Benjamin Moore's Coventry Gray, but after doing a sample board, I'm concerned it's just too dark for our living room / dining room space.  So, I'm thinking, the next colour down on the chip, Stonington Gray and Wickham Gray for our hallway area.

This is the Coventry Gray.  Unfortunately I don't have a sample board of the Stonington Gray, but I think I may go with that one.  Here's a link to their sample.

Also on the project list is repainting an old fold down secretary desk and using it in our dining room, as that seems to double best as our office/homework space.  Pictures to follow on once I start that project.

On crochet front, between family and friends, there are some more babies on the way.  So, I've been working on a new blanket...here's a sneak peak in gray again:

Crochet Art

Hello Friends...

Just wanted to share some crochet projects that I'd turned into wall art this past year.  It really couldn't be easier!  All you need is your motif...I think flowers are great, a hot glue gun, artist canvas and/or a shadow box.

This was my own improvised motif...I made this one awhile back and unfortunately did not record the pattern, otherwise I'd share it.  I used some craft acrylic paint in a cream colour and brushed on two coats before hot gluing my flower to the canvas.  Needless to say, allow paint to dry before gluing your motif.



These flowers are Motif #41 from Edie Eckman's "Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs" book...I  joined them into a doily like design and then glued them to the painted canvas.  You could also cover your canvas with your choice of fabric and then glue your design.

This particular flower is Motif #1 from Edie Eckman's "Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs" book.  Here I simply glued the motif to some card stock and framed it up in this shadow box from Ikea....gotta love Ikea!
