Scrap Yarn Crochet Basket: EASY

Hello friends,

Check out this gorgeous crochet basket! It's an quick and easy project with is beginner friendly. It's perfect for storing yarn, supplies, and would also look great as a plant pot! 

Using 2 strands of Bernat Blanket yarn held together, you can either use up leftover scraps of yarn, or start fresh with 2 new balls in the colours of your choice. See pattern and video tutorial below:




Supplies Required:

  • 2 balls of Bernat Blanket Yarn, or the equivalent in yarn scraps
  • Size 9mm crochet hook
  • Stitch Marker
  • Scissors 
  • Tapestry needle 




Pattern Instructions:

Ch 2, 


R 1: 8 SC into 2nd ch from hook. Do not join 

R 2: 2 SC into each st around (16 sts)

R 3: *2 SC into first st., 1 SC in next st.,* Repeat from * around (24 sts)

R4: *2 SC into first st., 1 SC in next 2 sts.* Repeat from * around (32 sts)

R5: *2 SC into first st., 1 SC in next 3 sts .* Repeat from * around (40 sts)

R6: *2 SC into first st., 1 SC in next 4 sts. * Repeat from * around (48 sts)

R7: *2 SC into first st., 1 SC in next 5 sts . * Repeat from * around (56 sts)

R8: *2 SC into first st., 1 SC in next 6 sts. * Repeat from * around (64 sts)

R9: Slip stitch into next stitch, Ch 1. SCBLO into next stitch and each stitch around (no increase - 64 sts)

R10: Slip stitch into first stitch from previous round. Ch 1, sc into same stitch and each st around. Repeat until R 19 (64 sts)

R20: Make Handles. Slip stitch into first stitch from previous round. Ch 1, SC into first 12 sts. Ch 8, skip 8 sts. SC into next 24 sts, ch 8, skip 8, sc around to end 

R21: sc around and into each st around including chain stitches on handles.


Fasten off and weave in ends
