What are you reading?

Recently I discovered this great book site called Goodreads, where you can keep track of all the books you've read, or intend to read.  You can also read and write reviews on books, recommend books and join book clubs.  They have a little widgety thing that you can add to your blog...mine is on the sidebar.  I thought this was so cool, especially if you're into reading, or if you just want to get back into reading.

Goodreads also lists non-fiction books, so I was able to find some of the crochet books that I've been fortunate enough to purchase over the past few years.  In the future, I plan to post reviews of those books on my blog and on my Goodreads bookshelf...so, look for that over the summer.

In the meantime, I am reading Secret Daughter, by Shilpi Somaya Gowda.  This book has been everywhere recently...the author is Canadian, and the story is set in both India and the U.S.  Without getting too much into the story, a young Indian woman gives birth to a female and is forced to give up her daughter into a orphanage.  The story follows the little girl as she grows up and the mother who gave her up.  So far, Secret Daughter has been an enjoyable read.

I'd love to hear what others are reading these days.  Especially with the summer approaching, I'm always looking for new books to read, even though my to read list is quite long.  Well, bye for now...we're off for more Easter celebrating this weekend.

Welcome...What's In A Name?

Hello out there...this being my first ever post, not sure if there is anyone here yet. I am writing with the intention that someone will read this one day...So, welcome to my little slice of the blog world. Here is where I share all that inspires me, my passions, what I hope to accomplish and any useful tidbits that I have gathered along the way, that I deem useful and fun to share.

Speaking of passions, you will find posts about crochet, yoga, home life, family, books, eating, caring for the environment, design, my favourite things, lifestyle, and everything in between.

Modern Grace...the name I've chosen for my blog and my crochet shop, was inspired by my Grandmother, Grace (which is also my middle name), who was a very talented knitter and crocheter. I have some experience knitting, as a girl, but I always wanted to learn to crochet. I just thought it was so cool the way they put those holes in the piece...how did they do that? Long story short, about 6 years ago, I decided I would teach myself, with Debbie Stoller's amazing book, The Happy Hooker...could crochet really be this easy? I've never looked back, I've learned so much since and just keep learning. Crochet is so simple, with really just a few basic stitches and variations on those. Simple is so beautiful...just as my Grandmother was. Take a look at some of my creations over the past few years..
