Double Brimmed Hat

Hello Friends...So, I was eager to try my hand at a double brimmed knit hat this season. They looked fairly simple to make and classic in design.  My hubby was looking for something a little warmer around the ears, so the perfect opportunity presented itself! I'm proud to say, that not only did it turn out great, he's actually been wearing it every day on his walk to and from the subway.  Yeah, success!! I can't wait to make more with some cute pompoms! Check it out.

Slouchy Sock Hats

Hello Friends...I am love with these knit sock hats!  They have a slight slouch, giving them a roomy feel. They are so easy to make, pretty much the knit stitch for all rounds.  I'll be stocking these at the ESA Craft Fair, coming up in a couple of days and look for a pattern release before the end of the month!

Fair Isle Knit Hat

Hello Friends...Since I got back into knitting recently, I made it a summer goal to make one of those cute Fair Isle hats you see all over Instagram and Etsy.  So, with much trial and error on of my own, I finally found a great basic tutorial on YouTube by CJ Design.  Her instructions are clear and she makes it really easy to follow along.  Once you get the hang of it, they are super easy to make and you can really have fun with colour combinations.  The only change I made to my hats were the number of cast on stitches at the beginning.  She starts with 44, I prefer to start with 40, but the pattern works out just the same.  It's a great way to use up some extra bits of yarn you may have lying around.  I found that the accent hearts do not require a ton of yarn.

This will now be by go to hat for friends and family for the winter upcoming winter season.  I'm planning on adding pompom toppers to some, but they look look equally great without too:

Child's Slouchy Hat

Hello Friends...

Word got around at my kids' school that I'm into crochet.  One of the mom's saw me in this hat and immediately asked if I could make one for her daughter, but slouchy, and with a cute flower.  I took on the challenge, and this is the final result:

Her daughter loves it and it looks sooo cute on her.  I do have a photo, but I am a firm believer of keeping the little ones faces off the Internet, but trust me, it's adorable on.  Fortunately I have a 6 year old daughter, so after some trial and error, I was able to ensure the fit was good.  This hat would be good for ages 5 - 8.

The original pattern can be found here, on the LionBrand website from which I modified for a child.  This one here is also slouchy with no pom-pom, so it looks quite different on.  Also, the gorgeous floral applique pattern can be found here.  This easy and fun to make beautiful flower is an original design by snapy tots.  Thank you to her for the perfect addition to my project.

In case you're interested, I will be writing up the instructions for making this cute children's hat in the coming days, so do look for that free on my blog.  I also have a 2 year old niece whom I intend to make a version for as well.  Once I'm done, I'll post those modifications too.

Cosy Crochet Cowl

Hello Friends...it's been a cold week up here in Toronto, but nothing to complain about in terms of the week our neighbours and friends (in my case family) to the south of us have endured.  Our hearts and prayers go out to them in their time of need.

I feel I've been going a bit cowl crazy lately.  They really just seem to be everywhere...on the streets and in all the stores.  We've been seeing them in the crochet/knit community for a few years now, but they have really taken off with the general public.  Here's my latest interpretation:

I wrote up a PDF pattern for this as well.  If you're interested, please visit my shop.  Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful weekend.

Easy Crochet Cowl

Hello Friends...Thanks for popping in.  I've been squeezing in some really easy cowl patterns during my busy schedule.  This one, if you can believe, I started in the summer and just got around to taking photos yesterday:

The pattern for this lovely cowl can be found posted on my Craftsy and Etsy sites.  Look for a variation on this one to come in the next week or so.

Slouchy Beanie

I finished off my Slouchy Beanie and I think it turned out so cute.  It's a little heavy, so I shortened the length a bit. It’s most likely because I used pure wool, which make is pretty warm...great for those really cold days.

The pattern again for this cute hat is by Vickie Howell and can be found here.

Cosy Cowl

So, I've been on an outerwear kick lately...a simple crochet cowl done in the round.  It's super bulky, cosy, yet lightweight...this one is going to be a custom order for my shop.

I need more warm hats...

So folks, this is what we're dealing with today...winter is finally here!  Yippee!

I've been inspired to try out this adorable crocheted slouchy beanie I found on Ravelry...it's by Vickie Howell for CARON, and it's called Urban Jungle.  Isn't it just so cute?  I'll keep you posted on my efforts...my potted rosemary is still doing well:

Crochet Cowl

Hello Friends....I hope the New Year has been treating everyone well so far!  We still have the rest of the week off with the kids and my hubby is off work until the Wed., so it's been nice to just hang around, sleep in and spend time with family.

Before Christmas, I whipped up this colourful little cowl for a family member...I just love the yarn she chose. Just a simple hdc stitch in the round. It measure's about 28" length by 6" width. The yarn she picked out is Bernat Mosaic...Medusa is the colour:

First Snow

Here we are, late in the year, and we've just had our first snow. A little unusual, considering we live in Canada...more specifically, Toronto, which can have unpredictable winters. The kids are quite happy, as am I...we've had far too much rain this December, a nice change for sure!

The Cooler Weather is Upon Us...

Hello Friends...

With school starting last week, we seem to be getting back into the swing of things.  The kids are adjusting to the new school well...making new friends and both are happy with their new teachers.  My little one, has a different schedule this year (her final year of Kindergarten)...she attends every day in the afternoon.  Last year, her school district had a full day, 2 days per week schedule.  Pros and cons to both, but we are enjoying the new change of pace.

With the cooler weather last week (it has since warmed up again), I was inspired to whip up a simple cold weather scarf...especially perfect for fall.  You may remember awhile back I'd found some great organic cotton yarn on clearance...always an exciting experience.  Anyway, I went back and picked up 3 more balls in a different colour.  The result is a simple, long hdc stitch scarf with tassels on each end.  The thing I love most about this scarf is its vibrant happy colour variations:

Last week before school started, we went down the lake again...this is what we found:
